Snowflake Ski Team is a Middle School and High School race team in the Wisconsin Nordic Ski League Southern Conference, based in Westby, WI. Dan Goltz serves as head coach. This program is offered to experienced youth skiers who want to build their ski skills, race, and travel. The intent is for skiers to develop proficient skating and classical technique, and to build high cardiovascular fitness and to learn and compete with a fun supportive team.
Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00pm and one practice each weekend (or race). We have dryland practices focusing on trail running, hill bounding, strength training, rollerskiing, etc. until it snows. Once snow arrives and conditions permit we will be based and practicing mainly at Timber Coulee in Westby.
Race Program membership is $200 for the season, and covers entry fees for the WNSL races that we attend. Team skiers will be responsible for the purchase of their own team race suit. We have a limited supply of racing equipment for both classic and skate technique. Rental cost is $100 per package (classic or skate), or an a la carte system- skis $50, boots $30, poles $20, subject to availability.
Travel expenses for lodging and food are the responsibility of the racers.
Team communication is via the Band App.
